My Stronghold

Stronghold (noun)
1: a fortified place
2: a: place of security or survival b: a place dominated by a particular group or marked by a particular characteristic
For my entire life the word Stronghold has represented something that I was meant to destroy or tear down in my life, which is true, but now I also know the rest of the story…
Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
Proverbs 14:15 The simple believes everything, but the prudent gives thought to his steps.
Indeed, God’s Word declares that we have weapons of warfare that have divine power to destroy strongholds. “We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.”
2 Corinthians 10:3-4 For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
Yet, the Psalmist David speaks very differently about the Strongholds in his life, as he said on the day he was delivered from the hand of Saul:
2 Samuel 22:1-4 And David spoke to the Lord the words of this song on the day when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. He said, “The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence. I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies.”
I see now that I am not only to be tearing down false Strongholds, but I am also to be building a new one. As a member of the household of God that has been built on the chief cornerstone, Jesus Christ Himself, in whom I am also being built together for a dwelling place of the God in the Spirit. Or as Jesus said it, “Abide in me, and I in you.” Because it is there that He reminds me…
Ephesians 2:19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,
Ephesians 2:22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
John 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
The Lord is a Stronghold for the oppressed, a Stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have NOT forsaken those who SEEK you.
Psalm 9:9-10 The Lord is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you.
At Seek First we simply want to remind you today to find time to abide in Christ and in His word, it is a safe place, and He’ll meet you there, time and time, again.
Psalm 62:1-2 For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.
