Power in the Tongue

I’ve heard all my life that the power of life and death are found in one of the smallest members of my body. My Tongue.
Yet, for much of my life I have given very little thought to the authority my words may carry.
See, even though it may be my mouth and tongue that forms the words that I speak, I do NOT get to determine the WEIGHT of the words that I speak nor do I get to RUN from the consequences of MY words either.
Want the GOOD News?
This gives YOU control of your destiny, not someone else.
Philippians 2:12-13- Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
Want the Not-so-Good News?
Proverbs instructs us that death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who LOVE it will EAT its fruits, because FROM the fruit of a man’s mouth HIS stomach is satisfied; HE is satisfied by the yield of his lips.
Proverbs 18:20-21- From the fruit of a man's mouth his stomach is satisfied; he is satisfied by the yield of his lips. Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.
This is the same reason why James reminds us that a large ship may appear to be driven by the strong winds of the sea. Yet, no matter how big a ship may be, the ship is actually being guided by a very SMALL rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs.
James 3:4-5- Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things.
James 3:9- With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God.
At Seek First we simply want to remind you today that you have more power in your tongue than you think, so use it wisely.
Even if you may feel your words do not have power or weight, be assured your tongue will determine whose will you follow today and whether the fruit you eat today will be good or bad.
At Seek First we are simply here to remind you to speak life today into yourself and into others, because your words matter and so do you!
Proverbs 18:15- An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.
