Stewards Of Our Own Souls

Stewards of our own souls.

At the risk of sounding like an infomercial, are you tired of religion? Are you tired of all the bashing and drama, but you still want to gather with His believers? At Seek First, we are too.

However, I have come to realize that I am not in charge, and I was never meant to fix you, especially when I haven’t even fixed me.

But do not be dismayed, because as Fr. Richard Rohr said best in Falling Upward, “Our unique little bit of heaven is installed by the Manufacturer within the product, at the beginning! We are given a span of years to discover it, to choose it, and to live our own destiny to the full.” (Page xii)

Yet, you should be fully aware that “We do not ‘make’ or ‘create’ our souls; we just ‘grow’ them up. We are the clumsy stewards of our own souls.” (Page xii)

So, the good news is — you do not have to look to religion, a church, or a man to bring a “word” or a little bit of heaven. It’s already in you.

The not-so-good news is that you cannot look to religion, a church, or a man to grow it. You are the one and only steward of your soul, and you can never pass that responsibility to another person, no matter what agreement the two of you may reach.

There is one Man who paid the price for your soul. Jesus specifically asked us, “For what can a man give in return for his soul?” (Mark 8:37)

Ourselves.

“Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice… even the wise die… and leave their wealth to others.” (Psalm 49:7-10)

See, we cannot take it with us, and it would do us no good anyway, because the ransom for our lives was so costly that it required the God of the universe to wrap Himself in flesh so that He could come and walk as the Word of God among us. (John 1:1, 14)

So, at Seek First we are simply here to remind you that God did not hold back. He paid the full price to be able to say,

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it.” (Mark 8:34-35)

So no matter what someone else may say, come to the Father with nothing but you and God’s Word. If you call on Him, Jesus will meet you there, and the Comforter too.

But don’t stop there. Sit with Him, and let Him grow your soul into who He designed you to be on this earth. If you visit us at Seek First, you will be encouraged to keep seeking Him first in all you do, because He is faithful and trustworthy to fulfill the promises found in His Word.
